Hi. I'm Michelle.
You know those artists who spent their childhoods doodling on every surface, who thought about art and painting and drawing all the time, the kids who were always hanging out in the art room at school?
That wasn't me.
My heart leaned more toward the sciences. I loved watching science fiction movies (avid Star Wars fan) and anything to do with space, I never missed an episode of NOVA on PBS, I excelled in the STEM classes in school, and eventually went on to be a biology major in college.
Becoming an Artist
Yet, as you'll find with many science-minded people, creativity was an outlet for me in many ways. My interest in visual arts didn’t bloom until I was in my last quarter of college and decided to take a drawing class. I fell so in love with it that I seriously considered changing my major to fine art. My practical side won over, however, and I decided that drawing would be my hobby while I continued to pursue my science career.
I continued to sketch in my off hours and soon moved onto watercolor painting.
I've been painting on and off (sometimes years off at a time), for over 30 years now! There's a lot more to the whole story and if you're ever interested in hearing all of that, I encourage you to sign up for my mailings where I share all kinds of stories.
Art & Faith

I am a follower of Jesus Christ and my faith is a defining part of who I am. I believe that God, our Creator, made all of us to also be creators, in His image.
While my art isn't considered "Christian Art", being Christian informs everything I do. You may find that I will have Christian themes in my artwork, or you'll hear about my faith and what I'm wrestling with in my social media platforms.
I find so much beauty in the world, a reflection of my Creator's handiwork. I try to capture that beauty in my landscape paintings, believing that it brings God joy and is a form of worship.
I have been so blessed by the community of artists I've met, by the people who truly love my artwork, by the growth I've experienced as an artist, and so much more.
Thank you for your interest in my art and my journey. I am honored that you're here and I hope we can one day meet.
The Fam Jam
I'm so blessed to be married to my fun loving and very engineery husband, Scott. We've been together for over 20 years and I can truly say that he is the love of my life.
Together we have three amazing kids that we are extremely proud of and we also simply enjoy hanging out with them. We made some good people.
Cate is our oldest and attends the University of Wisconsin, Madison. She is studying biochemistry and dietetics, has a goofy and fun sense of humor, loves puzzles and board games, can crochet the most amazing things from her imagination, has the messiest room, and is a dedicated and hard worker in all things. (She's second from the right in this photo.)
Clare is our fiesty middle and is attending the University of Minnesota, Duluth where she is studying Chemical Engineering. She is witty, loves sustainability in all forms, designs gorgeous online homes, has a better decorated room than I do, loves playing volleyball, has nearly perfect pitch, and is an avid bird nerd. (Clare is on the far right.)
Cooper is a junior in high school. He has a killer sense of humor, is an amazing guitar player, loves road trips, eats anything sweet, has learned more from YouTube than most have learned at college, he thinks it's funny not to smile in photos and is planning to study mechanical engineering when he graduates. (He is the non-smiling one in the middle.)
Fam Jam is the name of our family group chat which we use often. You can also find us all participating together on Snapchat and BeReal. These are my people. We are blessed!

Finally we have Moto, our faithful Golden Retriever and my model for many of my paintings. He started turning white in the face when he was 4 (now 10), is very vocal, loves floppy toys that he can whip around, he smiles at people (which sometimes scares them), and has been known to catch and kill rabbits, mice, and squirrels. And he's the only dog I know who circle wags when he's really happy.
